Department Introduction

DEPARTMENT OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE TEACHING METHOD, LANGUAGE OF EDUCATION AND STUDENT ADMISSION

The Department of Landscape Architecture, with 15 academic staff, is a four-year full-time undergraduate program with theoretical and applied courses in planning, design, landscape plant promotion and cultivation. Stakeholder meetings, social activities, field studies and projects are developed in order for students to have job opportunities in public, private sector, non-governmental organizations and/or entrepreneurship.  

The language of instruction is Turkish, but the compulsory foreign language course is English. Our department continues its education with a quota of 70+2 students for formal education. Student admission to the department is made with a numerical score in the Higher Education Institutions central examination system within the framework of the regulations determined by the Higher Education Institution. Students enrolled in the Landscape Architecture Undergraduate Program are required to take all the courses in the curriculum in order to graduate from the program and to do 60 working days of internship before graduation. This internship consists of 30 working days of practice/nursery and 30 working days of office internship.

DEPARTMENT OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE TEACHING STAFF

There are 5 Professor Dr., 4 Associate Professor Dr., 3 Assistant Professor, 1 Research Assistant Dr. and 2 Research Assistants working in the Department of Landscape Architecture. The head of the department reports to the unit manager. The head of the department actively plans the courses, curriculum, internship criteria and exam schedule of the program at the Department Board Meetings with the faculty members of the department. In our program, the achievability of these goals is constantly tested and a transparent and participatory management style is applied, moving towards these goals. Our department tries to include all relevant stakeholders in the education process and has a strong and competitive structure with its experienced staff.

PURPOSE OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Landscape Architecture aims to train Landscape Architects who can comprehend the environment, nature and space by providing the harmony and connection between nature and human, which is needed day by day in today's world, which is experiencing a rapid urbanization process, who can improve themselves with innovations, who are based on the principles of sustainability, and who are competent in their field at national and international level and open to developments. In this direction, foreign language learning is given importance. During the education period, it is aimed that students gain competence and experience in the following subjects:

Predisposition to team and project work,
Development of human relations and communication skills,
He has an entrepreneurial spirit,
To have a good command of computer programs (Office, AutoCAD, 3D Max, Sketchup, Photoshop, ArcGIS, etc.)

GOAL OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT

It is aimed that the students who graduate from our department will serve as experts who have qualified labor force potential, follow the current developments in the national and international platform related to the sector they will work in, are innovative, creative, have high communication skills, full of self-confidence, can comprehend the environment, nature, life and space and can improve themselves with innovations.

DEGREE EARNED

Students who graduate from the Department of Landscape Architecture are entitled to receive a bachelor's degree and are also entitled to receive the title of "Landscape Architect". In order to graduate from this department, students are required to have at least 2.00 out of 4.00 "GPA" (calculated according to local credits) from all courses in the curriculum and to take "120 ECTS" credits. In addition, they must complete their internships in the specified time and characteristics.

COMPETENCIES THAT STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE WHEN CHOOSING THE PROGRAM

Analytical thinking, numerical competencies, individual and environmental awareness, empathy, recognizing deficiencies and developing solutions to problems, developing ideas and projects, having initiative and entrepreneurial spirit, having a combative spirit, enjoying reading and learning new things, being open to innovations and change, following innovations, being interested in current developments in every sector in today's world at micro and macro level contribute to the education process they will receive in this program.

COMPETENCIES THAT STUDENTS WILL HAVE AT THE END OF THEIR EDUCATION

Students who graduate from the Department of Landscape Architecture take courses in which theory and practice are carried out together to support all aspects of the Landscape Architecture profession: Landscape design, planning, recognition and cultivation of landscape plants, environmental management, visual communication, organization, protection of natural and cultural environment, etc.
